I heart NYC.
Kristin is a Classically trained Pilates instructor who has been teaching for more than seven years, and practicing Pilates for over 13 years.
A lifelong dancer and athlete, Kristin was living the dream of being a musical theatre actress in NYC. Now, what that actually means is, she was a nanny and a bartender. One day, while slinging chianti at an Italian restaurant in Times Square, she met a fellow actress who was having a drink at the bar. She told her that in order to make money in between acting gigs, she had become a Pilates instructor, to which Kristin replied, "Hmmm. I've done Pilates. That sounds like fun!" And so began the start of an exciting and rewarding career.
Kristin received her certification in April of 2006 from the prestigious Core Pilates NYC, where she works as a senior trainer and is also heavily involved their comprehensive certification program, leading weekend training workshops for students during their six month apprenticeship. She also teaches in the East Village at Rinaldi Pilates, a top-notch studio offering private sessions with experienced instructors. In April of 2008, she earned her 200 hour vinyasa yoga certification from Bodhisattva Yoga in Park Slope, and in March of 2009 she became an ACE certified personal trainer. She credits Pilates with being her "gateway drug" into fitness, and has taken classes everywhere in NYC, in a variety of different disciplines. Boxing, Bikram, Brooklyn Half Marathon - you name it, she's done it!
Kristin is sought after because of her truly comprehensive understanding of the Pilates method, her eye for detail, and the fun and articulate way in which she instructs her clients. Her strength lies in getting people to delve deeper into the exercises, gain increased awareness of their bodies, and discover how to move more efficiently and with proper alignment.
Kristin knows an infinite number of exercises from outside of the Classical system, and tailors her sessions for each client, depending on their goals. She takes classes regularly, has worked with many master Pilates teachers over the years, and has participated in countless continuing education workshops where the topics ranged from Pilates for pregnancy to challenging the advanced mat exercises. She especially loves working with athletes who are looking to start Pilates as a compliment to their regular training.
Besides being a completely devoted Pilates student, Kristin can be found doing back squats, swinging kettlebells, and running down the block with a heavy sandbag (or a person) over her shoulders at Crossfit South Brooklyn. She has been a part of the community there since June of 2010, and truly cannot imagine her daily life without it. She lives in Brooklyn, studies French, loves coffee, and is a lifelong Mets fan.
